In this four-in-one postcard a new composition is established by means of two perforation lines. One carefully follows the horizon already present in this seascape while a vertical line crosses its horizontal equal, creating an additional vertical horizon. This work is a play on the notion of having a plural noun for something that is by its very nature singular. There can never be more than one horizon. As such, the plural horizons has no visual counterpart. The addition of the imaginary vertical horizon dictates how the now four sections of the image are composed. Some of these postcards were sent out as invitation cards announcing the 2020 exhibition To smooth out by Reinier Vrancken & Raquel Vermunt at galerie Gallery, Rotterdam (NL).
